HMS Headwind
Music, lyrics, and book by Michael Gordon Shapiro
A Short Musical

HMS Headwind is a fifteen minute musical comedy loosely in the style of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Savoy” operettas.  It’s part of the Feast of Snacks collection of short musicals.

The story revolves around the merry if none-too-competent crew of an 18th century British ship of the line.  They pursue the pirate queen Black Abigail, who captures naval ships, ties up their crew, and leaves behind written critiques of their seamanship.  Complications develop when... well, it’s quite a short show.  We can’t give away everything.

HMS Headwind made its staged premiere in 2010 at the 7th Annual Secret Rose Short Play Festival in North Hollywood.  In 2011 it was a semifinalist at the Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival.  Since then it’s been performed numerous times both in short play festivals worldwide, and as part of the musical anthology A Feast of Snacks.
